Independence Day (Mexico)

Día de la Independencia, celebrated on September 16, commemorates Mexico’s independence from Spain and honors the beginning of the country’s fight for freedom in 1810. The celebration begins on the evening of September 15 with El Grito de Dolores, a reenactment of the call to independence made by Father Miguel Hidalgo.
