Tzom Gedaliah (Jewish), also known as the Fast of Gedaliah, is a Jewish day of fasting and remembrance observed shortly after Rosh Hashanah. It commemorates the assassination of Gedaliah ben Ahikam, the Jewish governor of Judah after the destruction of the First Temple, an event that led to further tragedy and exile for the Jewish people. The fast is a time for reflection, prayer, and repentance, highlighting the importance of unity, leadership, and the consequences of internal conflict within a community.
