Purim is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from annihilation at the hands of an official of the Achaemenid Empire named Haman. The four main obligations of the day are
- Listening to the public reading of the Book of Esther.
- Sending food gifts to friends
- Giving charity to the poor
- Eating a festive meal
